5.  How to use the Report Generator


a) Function of Report Generator  

This report generator provides the ability to create a tabular listing of one or more statistics for a selection of area types. To build a report you will need to select a number of pieces of information. 

You don't need have any statistics displayed on the map to use this function - also you can have any map displayed, in any location.  The report generator operates as an independent tool.

Simply click on the button 'Generate Report' at the foot of the Map Tools.

The column on the left will prompt you on what to do next. Now look at the list of report steps shown in the right hand column.  

The column to the right will list what you have selected so far as you go through the 4 steps of this tool.

To quit the report generator at any time select the 'View Map' or 'Home' button.


b) Step 1  

Step 1 - Start by selecting an area type from the list in the left hand column (ie. Neighbourhood, ward etc). Selecting an area type will then move you to the next step.


c) Step 2  

Step 2 - Shows a map of the chosen area type in the centred frame and a list of area names in the left column.  You can select one of these areas from this list by clicking on it or by clicking on its location on the map.  Once you have built up the area you wish to carry out your report on click on the 'Next' button.


d) Step 3  

Step 3 - This gives you all the statistical datasets available for you to select for your report.  You can click on one or more from a mixture of themes. Now click on the 'Next' button.                                                                                 [Top]


e) Step 4  

Step 4 - This is the results of your report in tabular format.  You can sort the columns by clicking in the box next to the column heading.  This will put it in alphabetical or numeric order as appropriate.

Also shown are City, Regional and National comparisons as available.

You can now either print or export this collection of data that you have brought together. 


f) Export  

Just click on the 'Export' button. The export is via a csv file which, for example, can be opened and saved as an MS Excel spreadsheet.  You can then manipulate this data further with all the functionality of this software.

Also this file format can be taken into programs such as MS Word to illustrate documents etc.


g) Print

The print is straightforward (click on the 'Print' button). This will then print the table as displayed.
